HCG Tests | RapidTest.comPregnancy HCG tests detect the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in either urine or serum. Production of this hormone increases steadily through the first five months of pregnancy, and urine is an easy way to perform the test; however, certain conditions are required.

The test can be performed at any time of day, but a urine sample from first thing in the morning is preferable due to a higher concentration of the hormone. Women should not drink an excessive amount of water to induce urination because it will dilute the sample and make it more difficult to detect the hCG. Additionally, the test should not be performed too early in a woman’s cycle or there is a risk of false negatives.

The hormone hCG is present in in women blood or urine shortly after conception, but it’s more easily detected after embryo implantation. This occurs, on average, within 10 days after conception. Levels of hCG can first be detected by a blood test about 11 days after conception and about 12 – 14 days after conception by a urine test. An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.

If a pregnancy test shows negative results, repeating it a week later, especially with the morning’s first urine, is likely to be more accurate. Come to Diagnostic Automation / Cortez Diagnostics, Inc. to see the selection of HCG Rapid Tests we have available.
