Rapid (OXY) Oxycodone Drug Test (Cassette) description:

The Oxycodone Drug Test (OXY Drug Test), or The Cortez Diagnostics, Inc. DOA (Drug of Abuse) test, is an immunochromatography based one step in vitro test. The Oxycodone drug test is designed for qualitative determination of oxycodone drug substances in human urine specimens. This assay may be used in the point of care setting.

Oxycodone is known as Oxycontin, Roxicodone and is an ingredient of Percodan, Percocet, Roxicet and Tylox. The Oxycodone drug is a semi-synthetic opiate derived from opium. Like other opiates, the oxycodone drug is characterized by its analegestic properties, and the tendency for users to form a physical dependency and develop tolerance with extended use. The Oxycodone drug is usually administered in combination with non-opiate analegesics such as acetaminophen and salicylates for the relief of moderate to severe pain. The Oxycodone drug is a central nervous system depressant that may cause drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, weakness and confusion. Toxicity in an overdose of the oxycodone drug can lead to stupor, coma, muscle flaccidity, severe respiratory depression, hypotension, and stripiac arrest. The Oxycodone drug is metabolized by N- and O-demethylation. One of the metabolites, oxymorphone, is a potent narcotic analgesic, while the other, noroxycodone, is relatively inactive. Between 33 to 61% of a single dose of the oxycodone drug is excreted in a 24 hour urine collection and consists of 13-19% free oxycodone, 7-29% glucuronide conjugated oxycodone, 13-14% glucuronide conjugated oxymorphone and an unknown amount of noroxycodone. The detection time window of the oxycodone drug is 1-3 days following use.

The Oxycodone Drug Testing device is based on the principle of specific immunochemical reaction between antibodies and antigens to analyze particular compounds in human urine specimen. The assay relies on the competition for binding antibody between drug conjugate and free drug which may be present in the urine specimen being tested. When the oxycodone drug is present in the urine specimen, it competes with drug conjugate for the limited amount of antibody-dye conjugate. When the amount of the oxycodone drug is equal or more than the cut-off, it will prevent the binding of drug conjugate to the antibody. Therefore, a positive urine specimen on the Oxycodone Drug Test will not show a colored band on the test line zone, indicating a positive result, while the presence of a colored band indicates a negative result. A control line is present in the test window to work as procedural control. This colored band should always appear on the control line zone if the Oxycodone drug testing device is stored in good condition and the Oxycodone drug test is performed appropriately.

This Oxycodone Drug Test (OXY Drug Test) provides only a preliminary analytical test result. A more specific alternative chemical method must be used in order to obtain a confirmed analytical result. Gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry (GC/MS) has been established as the preferred confirmatory method by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Clinical consideration and professional judgment should be applied to any drug of abuse test result, particularly when preliminary positive results are indicated.

The optional built-in Adulteration Test is for validation of urine specimen’s integrity and must not be used for In Vitro diagnostic use. The cutoff level for this Oxycodone Drug Test (OXY Drug Test) is 100 ng/ml of oxycodone. For customized cutoff level oxycodone drug tests, please contact Customer Service. This Oxycodone Drug Test (OXY Drug Test) is available in multi-panel, cassette, strip, or cup format.
