Adeno/Rota combo Rapid Test Background Information
Rotaviruses are the most common cause of pediatric gastroenteritis (otherwise known as stomach flu despite no relation to influenza virus) and diarrhea. There are five species of rotavirus, known as, A, B, C, D, and E. Rotavirus A accounts for over 90% of infection in humans. All five species cause disease in animals. Worldwide over 500,000 children under the age of 5 die from rotavirus infection and over 2,000,000 become severely ill each year, mostly in developing countries. Rotavirus accounts for up to 50% of hospitalization in infants and children with severe diarrhea. This virus is transmitted by the fecal-oral route. Adenovirus is the second most common cause of viral gastroenteritis in Children. In addition to diarrhea, Adenovirus may also cause respiratory diseases, conjunctivitis, cystitis, etc. depending on the serotype. Over 45 serotypes of adenovirus have been described, all sharing a common hexon antigen. Serotypes 40 and 41 are the ones associated with gastroenteritis, with the main syndrome being diarrhea which can last between 9 and 12 days associated with fever and vomits.

Adeno/Rota combo Rapid Test Principle
This Adenovirus and Rotavirus Rapid Test is a sandwich solid phase immunochromatographic assay. To perform the Adenovirus /Rotavirus Rapid test, an aliquot of diluted stool sample is added to the sample well of the test Adenovirus / Rotavirus rapid test cassette. The sample flows through a pad on the Adenovirus / Rotavirus Rapid Test containing antibodies against adenovirus and rotavirus coupled to red-colored colloidal gold. If the sample on the Adenovirus / Rotavirus rapid test contains adenovirus or rotavirus antigens, the antigen will bind to the antibody coated on the colloidal gold particles to form antigen-antibody-gold complexes. For additional details please refer to the instructions for use.
